*2007*
Once again, it's time
for a party. Many of you have been sitting it out all year, telling friends
and neighbors, "Sorry, I can't come to your orgy; I'm saving myself
for the Big Empire." Others among you simply haven't been invited
to any parties. That's okay. we weren't either. So, we're throwing our
own, and you're invited. This year, the festivities take place June
8 and June 9. Check back with this page for more details
as the date approaches because everything is always subject to change,
and there is no guarantee of anything.
Due to the continual
decline of the once-beloved Gold Spike, we are moving our festivities
to the newly resplendent El Cortez. We even arranged for a special rate
on a very limited number of rooms there: e-mail
us for details. |

The
1st Annual Sigma Derby Handicapper's Challenge
On June 8, 2007, Up to
20 of the world's finest horse racing handicappers will partake of
this high-stakes test of talent. Sigma Derby, also known as "that
weird mechanical horse racing thing" is perhaps the most accurate
predictor of a handicapper's knowledge of the ponies, the tracks and
the weather. Each gambler will enter the squared track with $10: $5
to wager on ponies and $5 to put into the champion's pocket. The gamblers
will be allowed to wager however they like, but must make no more
or less than $5 worth of wagers over the same 20 races as the other
entrants. Whoever leaves the table with the most winnings (and there
will be lots) gets to keep them plus pocket the prize pool, and earn
the title of World's Most Accurate Handicapper. The event is
scheduled for two heats of ten players each. Or, if some jerks are
alreayd playing, we may have to break down into more heats). The time
for this event is not yet scheduled, but is likely to take place deep
in the night at the Frontier Hotel on June 8, when there is little
to no crowd. THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT. Spectators stand by for
details on the post time. |

The Solar System's most important

'Em Freezeout tournament. This is the only Professional-caliber poker
tournament where you can play with hobos, winos and robots! All entry
fees are paid out in prizes, plus the Ultimate Champion receives the
prestigious SSSOP bracelet. If you haven't played in a previous SSSOP,
your chances of getting a seat in this prestigious $15 entry fee
Mega-Event with life-changing cash prizes (plus you get a T-shirt)
are slim, but they aren't non-existent. THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT. |

The
10th Annual Cocktail Soiree
Have a drink with us. Or have
two. We'll be meeting at the El Cortez Hotel and Casino at 8 p.m.
on Saturday, June 9. Enjoy fine music and finer cocktails.
This is a swell opportunity to meet the folks behind the Big Empire, as well as other Las Vegas aficionados. We'll have
the room until 10 or so before we spill into the bar and casino. E-mail
for more details. |

Sartorial Splendor
Once again this year you are
encouraged to dress the part of Vegas scalawag.Folks, this is not
a costume contest, and there is no wagering (unless we get a piece
of the action). This is simply your opportunity to let your id dress
you and immerse youself in the Vegas spirit. Winners of the Sartorial
Splendor are selected in an informal poll of Soiree attendees. And
the prize is usually just the satisfaction of knowing you have class. |

The night devolves into debauchery
The official events end when
the last event is complete, but the party is far from over. Play some
craps, drink mass quantities of beverages, eat pie at the Gold Spike,
redeem a funbook coupon, watch a Las Vegas sunrise, or do whatever
other hijinks you can think of. Don't rest until you've either won
every dollar from every Las Vegas casino or the sun comes up on a
Sunday morning -- whichever's first. Either way, we'll be asking for
a loan. |
